About forty four familys. One single man an Anabaptist He hath a maid an Apprentice But I cannot learn that he compells Her to go with him to the meeting. One widow woman A Presbyterian Whilst in Exeter. But cometh sometimes to This Church. No licenced or other meeting house in the parish.
Public or charity schools: No Endowed school. The parishioners desire that the collection at the Alter may be Imployed in Teaching poor Children to Read which is Accordingly done to the number of Ten and Books bought for them. The Church catechism only is what they are Instructed in. They are Brought to Church on Holy-days.
Alms-house, hospital or charitable endowment: No Alms Hous or Hospitall in the Parish. No Endowments for the Repair of the Church. All the very few Charitys Belonging to This parish are as far as I know duely & Regularly distributed.
Residence upon cure: I personally & Continually Reside on This parsonage And in the Parsonage House.
Curate: The Curate Tho’ Licenced for this Parish is Resident at Snt Marys. Mr John Sowdon. There is no no [sic] parsonage Hous nor any sallary pension or other advantage to the amount of a single farthing at Snt Marys. He dyets & Lodgeth with his Mother in the West suburbs of Exeter and always Resideing there He is licenced His sallary is forty pound a year.
Frequency of divine service: On every Sundy & Rubrick Holiday in The year with Two sermons Each Lords day unless for The Two years Last past when for the dead Quarter there hath been only the morning sermon and the prayers in the afternoon.
Frequency of communion: Each of the Three great festivalls Low Sundy The first Sundy in Lent And The first Sundy after Michaelmas.
Number of communicants: About 143 Communicants Usually. About 30 communicate. Last Easter About 50 or 60.
Catechising of children: It is with Great concern I tell you Lordship That I Have not catechised Here The day after I received the presentation I fell Ill of a fever I could not officiate at Either parish I was sent severall years to Bath & Bristoll when I got some small strength I began A catechism But could not finish it & of Late the ordinary Sundy dutys are too much for me.
Chapels or chapels in ruins: No Chappel in the Parish. There is an old Ruine near Pyne’s Holy (The seat of Lady Northcote) which some say was A Chappell but I could never Learn the certainty of it.
